Final CivPo due Tuesday, December 20. Substantial extra credit for turning it in on Friday and being prepared to present a portion of it to the class. Annotated bibliography due by Friday, December 16. Last day for makeup work, including lit. analysis essay re-writes are due Friday, as well! Agenda: Nov/Dec notebook checks: 1) Group brainstorming posters 2) Reflection warm-up on literary analysis 3) What does it mean to be a citizen? Warm-up Notes: counter-arguments Counter-agrument partner activity: 1) Underline where the writer addresses the counter-argument in this paragraph. 2) Circle where the writer offers a rebuttal to that counter-argument. *Answer questions 3-5 on the back of the sheet. Write your name. 3) Does the writer successfully rebuke the counter-argument? Why or why not? 4) Is the writer relying on an appeal to pathos or logos in this paragraph? 5) How does addressing the counter-argument build the writer’s ethos? Explain. Agenda: Warm-up: Reflection Describe the strengths you want to maintain in your writing. Describe two things you want to change for your next piece of analytical writing. How will you make those changes? What questions do you have about the feedback? What will you do to get your questions answered? If you haven’t turned in this essay yet, write out a plan for what you are going to do to get this turned in. The plan needs to be detailed and include a deadline for yourself to turn it in. Library card sign-up Agenda: Warm-up: Return to your brainstorming from last class. With the group I put you with, create a poster that lists the topics pertaining to that category. Include at least five ideas on your poster. Each idea should have: ›An explanation of why that issue is a problem ›one possible counter-argument (what would someone with a differing opinion say?) ›one possible idea for a solution. Individual quick-write: Which topic do you choose? Take a look at all of the topics the other groups have generated. Make a final decision about the topic that interests you the most. Consider what you care about, what you want to see changed, etc. ›Additionally, write about why you care about this topic. ›What is your stance or position on this topic? ›What are some reasons you can think of that make this topic worth arguing? ›What’s a possible solution you might present? ›What might someone with a differing opinion than you say? |
