HW Reminders and Agenda:
HW reminders: If you have not turned in your revised Oedipus paragraph, that is overdue. Agenda: There are character archetypes too! Go back and review: what is an archetype? Can you think of any types of characters that repeat in literature, movies, TV shows, video games, comic books, etc.? Describe at least three. Notes on character archetypes Discuss story of Narcissus Start reading! Happy homecoming!
Today will be a day to go back to our Oedipus close reading and PEA paragraph and do some revision. Revised paragraph will be due at the end of class. HW Reminders and Agenda:
HW reminders: if you have not turned in your Oedipus close reading and PEA paragraph, do so quickly! It is now late. Agenda: Warm-up: The Final FINAL Stop--Return to your symbolic journey from last class. You have to leave the camel now since you already reached your destination. Another person will now ride the camel. Who is he/she? Notes: Concepts to understand--archetypes--two types: situational and character Discuss situational archetypes Group game Hw reminders and Agenda:
HW reminders: If you did not turn in your final Oedipus piece today, then you have hw! It is now late! Agenda: Warm-up: In your own words, retell a story that you love. Why do you love this story? Remember that a story doesn’t just come from a book. TV shows, movies, video games, comic books, gossip, stories within your family, commercials, podcasts are all ways to tell stories. Why do we like stories? Explain your thinking. Symbolic journey activity--see Ms. Chase for details if you missed this. Agenda and HW Reminders:
HW reminders: Finish your annotation and PEA paragraph for passage #3 of Oedipus. Prompt for PEA paragraph: How does this passage help convey a central message of this play? How do you know what you know? Agenda: Warm-up: Returning to themes in Oedipus... Let’s return to a few of our agree/disagree statements from the beginning of this unit and reconsider them now that we have read the story of Oedipus. 1. There is only one way to see things. 2. If you are in a position of power, you should be exempt from following certain rules/consequences. 3. It is easier to place blame on those around us than to look inside ourselves. 4. There is a fine line between pride and arrogance. Having too much pride is evil. Go back and look at what you initially had to say about these four statements. As we prepare to culminate our quick study of Oedipus, consider the following question: would Sophocles agree or disagree with these themes? Explain how you know what you know. Work time on annotating and writing about passage #3--handed out in class HW Reminders and Agenda:
HW reminders: None! Agenda: Warm-up: Annotation Think about our conversation last class. Return to what you wrote about annotation and reading habits. Just briefly look through the suggested ideas for annotation on the hand out I give you. Reflect: when you annotate, what strategies on this hand out do you already use? What strategies could you see yourself employing? What strategies might not work for you as a reader? Explain your thinking. Model annotation on Oedipus passage one Paired work--complete annotations and reflective response HW Reminders and Agenda:
HW reminders: None! Agenda: Quick group warm-up: I will put you in a group. Everyone in the group must perform. Here is your goal: Look through what we have performed in the condensed version of the play so far (remember, we ended when Jocasta left saying her last words to Oedipus). What are the important parts of the plot? Who are the important characters? Then, as a group, write a very quick version of the play so far that can be performed in 30 seconds! You can use language from the play, or use modern English. Finish performing Oedipus End of class discussion: Be honest: describe your study habits. How do you approach reading a text, and getting to know the material in any given text? When you go to college, how do plan to absorb what you read at that level? What is annotation? What are your past experiences with annotation? Explain. HW Reminders and Agenda:
HW reminders: We are already in the fourth week! Check your grade, jot down what it is and your percentage. Jot down any assignments you are missing. Due next class. Agenda: Warm-up: Return to Oedipus--Find one powerful piece of direct evidence that demonstrates Sophocles use of dramatic irony and discuss the intended effect of this line on us as the audience. Continue to perform and discuss the condensed version of the play Homework reminder and agenda:
HW reminders: Webquest needs to be completed by today. Agenda: Warm-up: Return to agree/disagree from last class View scenes from Oedipus Perform Oedipus |
